From his hole in the basement in the Prologue to the engine room at Liberty Paints to his falling through the manhole in Chapter twenty-five, Ellison continuously puts the narrator in subterranean and underground settings. Why? Using at least two of these examples (there are a couple more), write a strong essay arguing the significance of these settings in the novel.
